The mottled star looks similar to common sea star, but with a smaller disc and more tapered arms.
This star varies in color from rust, brown and orange to blue-gray. Their spines are not as noticeable on the upper surface.
Look on the underside of this star. Scale worms often live in the grooves of the arms or rays.
Limpets do not like the mottled star and can be seen moving away when one comes close to it.
